DAISY TORTUGA

AS YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW, WE LOVE TO CONNECT WITH WORLDWIDE ARTISTS AND CREATE BEAUTIFUL ART PIECES TOGETHER. WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO ONE OF THE ARTISTS THAT TOOK OUR BREATH AWAY: DAISY TORTUGA.

ABOUT DAISY TORTUGA

Daisy Tortuga is a multi-disciplinary artist who lives and works in Hackney Wick, London. Her work mainly focuses on craft and creation, pushing the perceptions of traditional illustration. She describes herself as an obsessive maker. Her approach to the creative process of each piece is intuitive and both emotional and cathartic; she primarily works with rugs and tufted art. Food, cooking books, personal artefacts, and domestic spaces spill over into Tortuga's pieces. She thinks a lot about the way she saw the world as a child, which gives all her pieces a nostalgic touch.

Daisy Tortuga has been making rugs since her final year at Kingston University, where she studied Illustration. She considers herself an illustrator, even if she uses materials not traditionally associated with the discipline. Wax sculptures, embroidery, knitting and sound have all appeared in Tortuga’s art at some point; however, rug making has come to be her main form of expression.
