DATTA FARM

WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO INGRID PRATMARSÓ AND ANA TORNER, THE FOUNDERS OF DATTA, A SUSTAINABLE NIGHTWEAR AND JEWELRY BRAND FROM BARCELONA.

THEY CREATE UNIQUE PIECES FROM OLD FABRICS THAT THEY FIND IN ANTIQUE SHOPS AND AUCTIONS. A BRAND THAT INSPIRES TIMELESSNESS, DURABILITY AND QUALITY THROUGH THEIR DESIGNS AND FABRICS. THEY WORK BY EDITIONS AND NOT COLLECTIONS.

1. HOW DATTA WAS BORN?

The idea of creating something together had been in our minds for a while, but it was in New Delhi, India, where we got inspired and decided to start shaping the idea and bringing it to life. I think it was February 2019.

2. WHERE DID YOUR PASSION FOR ANTIQUE DEALERS AND SECOND-HAND MARKETS COME FROM?

Family tradition is the first thought that comes to our minds. We’ve always been surrounded by family and friends that admire and appreciate the quality in the small details, who value art and craftsmanship, and strive to beautify the world by wearing unique garments, jewels and other fashion accessories. Ultimately, it was extremely easy and enjoyable to follow that path and keep our ‘family traditions’ alive.

3. IT CAN BE SAID THAT CURRENTLY NIGHTGOWNS SYMBOLIZE A LIFESTYLE, AN INHERITANCE, A PAST. HOW DOES ONE FEEL WEARING THIS TYPE OF GARMENT?

Our nightgowns are elegant, versatile, sober and not at all pretentious; they are long-lasting garments that don’t follow seasonal fashion trends. Useful and beautiful, our garments are meant to be worn not only at bedtime but also during the day. Comfortable and cozy nightgowns, they are a must for every hedonist.

4. WHAT IS THE DESIGN AND PRODUCTION PROCESS OF YOUR PRODUCTS?

The process happens almost by itself, following a natural and instinctive flow without us realizing it as we move enthusiastically to the next idea. We work step by step, trying not to lose even a drop of our passion along the way, and above all, learning from each other.

5. HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF SLOW FASHION? YOU ARE PART OF THIS CONCEPT —AS MANY OTHER EMERGING BRANDS—, HOW DO YOU LIVE IT?

Slow fashion is about quality and sustainability, not quantity. Garments that can last years or even a lifetime. We believe this is the only path forward. Our way of doing it is using only vintage fabrics which have no adverse effects on the environment.

6. LOOKING IT FROM THE OUTSIDE, IT’S POSSIBLE TO THINK THAT WORKING IN A SUSTAINABLE AND ETHICAL WAY IS EASY. BUT, WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU HAVE TO FACE DAILY?

Well, working ethically and using sustainable local raw materials brings a higher cost, obviously. This impacts the minimum price at which we can offer our quality products.

7. WHAT DOES YOUR NEW PROJECT ‘SOLAS Y JUNTAS’ CONSIST OF?

‘Solas y Juntas’ project is a social experiment. We wanted to connect several women related to the art world through one of our nightgowns. The nightgown, along with a journal, travels from one woman to another. We wanted that the women who wore it were able to share the feelings they had while wearing that garment. The tech world can be really useful and efficient, but when it comes to human relationships, there is no better machine than the human being to express feelings.

8. HOW DO YOU SEE DATTA IN THE FUTURE?

Great question! We see Datta in a beautiful space, with even better garments, and with a family of customers and local suppliers growing little by little.
