SOCIAL AND PLANTING PROJECT
Forests cover 31% of our planet’s land area. They produce vital oxygen and provide shelter for many people and wildlife. Unfortunately, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), humans are destroying 7.4 million hectares of forests annually, which is equivalent to the size of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg altogether.
In SAYE we have fought against deforestation since 2018 allowing all of our customers to take part in our project. Every time you buy a pair of sneakers, we fund the growth of two trees in collaboration with the NGO We Forest.
Joining forces enables us not only to restore the trees in the most needed areas of our planet, but also to empower forest-dependent local communities providing them with tools for their livelihood development and training them on how to regenerate and protect the forest so it can become a sustainable resource for wood and food.
In SAYE we plant two trees for each pair of sneakers sold since the beginning, allowing us to help grow more than we could have ever expected. So far we’ve funded 178,238 trees; 145,682 of them in Zambia, 30,326 in India, 1,982 in Australia and 248 in the Amazon. Our goal is to reach over 200,000 trees by the end of 2021.
